Josh training for the 100km Ultra Challenge for Youthful Minds
Share

Josh shares the toughest moments, the mindset, and what the finish line means.

With less than one week to go until Josh Cullinan takes on the London to Brighton 100km Ultra Challenge on 23 May, the focus has shifted from building fitness to staying consistent, recovering well, and sharpening race-day mindset.

In this Q&A we find out what’s surprised him most on this journey, the hardest part of training and why he chose a challenge that pushes him so far outside his comfort zone as he gets ready to supports Youthful Minds and youth mental health awareness in Jersey.

What’s surprised you most about your journey so far?

That it’s actually happening. A year ago I couldn’t finish a 5k without stopping due to fatigue, and now I’m about to take on 100km. It really shows what you can achieve when you fully commit yourself to something.

What has been the most difficult part of training?

One of the most difficult parts of training has been managing the sheer volume each week — balancing running, weight training, and recovery swimming. It’s required a lot of discipline, and I’ve had to sacrifice a big part of my daily life to stay committed to the goal.

What made you pick this challenge in particular?

I picked this challenge because I’m drawn to things that really push me out of my comfort zone. I love a challenge that makes me doubt myself and question whether I can actually complete it.

Do you have a strategy for the race on the day?

I think a big part of this race is the mentality as much as the physical side. My strategy is to stay focused and keep my mindset positive, so I can push through whatever challenges come up on the day.

What will be going through your mind as you cross the finish line?

I think it’ll be a mix of relief, pride, and gratitude. This has been a long-term goal of mine, and crossing that finish line will make me reflect on the whole journey — from where I started to how far I’ve come. I’ll be thinking about all the people I’ve met and the bonds I’ve made along the way, as well as the lifestyle change that running has brought into my life.

With race day now fast approaching, Josh’s focus is clear: keep the mindset positive, embrace the discomfort, and push through every high and low the course brings.

Anyone wishing to donate can do so here.

Some of the volunteers at Youthful Minds

Now in its second year of supporting Youthful Minds – part of Mind Jersey – Crestbridge Family Office Services (“Crestbridge”) is continuing its commitment to improving mental health outcomes for young people.

Marking Mental Health Awareness Week, CEO Heather Tibbo shares why raising awareness in this space is so important — not only for the charity, but for Crestbridge as a business…

Why did Crestbridge initially decide to support Youthful Minds?

Supporting the local community is central to our culture as a firm, and the opportunity to start working in partnership with Youthful Minds last year was a natural step for us. Driven by an impressive team of volunteers, the charity does a huge amount to raise awareness around mental health issues in young people – and it’s a big remit, ranging from children as young as seven years old all the way up to young adults of 25.

That struck a chord with us – as a firm with a young team but also where a significant proportion of our people have young families, and as a business that works every single day with family clients.

Why is mental health in young people such an important issue for businesses?

What’s been clear since working with Youthful Minds is that talking about mental health is fundamentally important, for businesses and for the island as a whole. The prevalence of mental health issues in young people has changed significantly over the past few years and we are seeing big shifts in how mental health is impacting children, adolescents and, ultimately, young adults – those entering the world of work.

How is Youthful Minds benefiting from Crestbridge’s support?

Youthful Minds continues to be focused on addressing the complex mental health challenges faced by young people by raising awareness and driving meaningful engagement with key organisations – including schools, youth clubs, other charities and businesses like ours. For example, they have worked with a secondary school to support young people who are finding it difficult to focus and engage with school life. This has included delivering a workshop for teachers to build understanding and provide practical approaches that staff can use to better support both students and the wider school environment.

As a firm, we’ve supported these efforts in a few ways—firstly, by providing financial support through donations and fundraising activities. Members of our team have taken on a number of fundraising initiatives and challenges this year, most recently our Director, Chloë’s “Brave the Shave”, and Josh’s upcoming 100km Ultra Challenge.

We’ve also provided professional support to help deliver specific projects and raise awareness, with our people meeting regularly with the Youthful Minds team to talk about how we can best support them.

And likewise, how has the business benefited?

Working with the team at Youthful Minds has really shone a light on where we can enhance our own approach as a business – we’ve held stress awareness sessions for our team with Youthful Minds, for example, and a significant proportion of our team are now Mental Health First Aiders, thanks to training through Youthful Minds and Mind Jersey.

What’s impacted you most through supporting Youthful Minds’ activity this year?

Unquestionably it’s the contribution made by Youthful Mind’s own group of volunteers. They are incredibly driven and give a huge amount of their time, with some being long-term volunteers. Their commitment to helping others is incredibly powerful and humbling, whether that’s through presenting in primary and secondary schools, attending promotional events or collaborating with Jersey’s health services.

What’s on the horizon for Crestbridge’s support of Youthful Minds?

We know that helping to drive positive change is not a short-term effort, and we’re continuing to build on this valuable partnership. This year, our focus is on strengthening further our relationship with Youthful Minds and their amazing team of volunteers, highlighting the potential of collaboration across the charity sector and business community, and helping to underline just how important it is to create a safe and supportive environment for young people in Jersey.

Our hope is that, through our ongoing support, we can build on what we’ve achieved so far and help to normalise conversations about mental health.

Crestbridge Family Office Services’ (Crestbridge) Head of Risk and Operations Chloë Blampied has raised £1,300 through a charity head-shave, as the firm continues to support the work of local charity Youthful Minds.

As part of the firm’s ‘Brave the Shave’ initiative Chloë agreed to have her head shaved last month, with colleagues and contacts making generous donations to support the charity.

Chloë has always been an active fundraiser and has completed a number of challenges to support local charities over recent years, including the Three Peaks Challenge, abseiling down Mont Orgueil last year, taking part in White Collar Boxing competitions twice, paddleboarding around the island and White Collar DJ-ing.

Braving the Shave was undoubtedly a daunting challenge and I’m really grateful to everyone who donated and supported it. We tend to have a strong emotional connection to our hair, but this initiative provided a powerful way to raise awareness around mental health in young people and the fantastic work undertaken by our nominated charity Youthful Minds.
Chloë Blampied, Executive Director, Head of Risk and Operations

Youthful Minds, part of Mind Jersey, works to support young people’s mental health in Jersey, providing guidance, understanding, and safe spaces for those who may be struggling.

Charlie Lucas, Senior Administrator at Crestbridge, put himself forward for the role of barber on the day.

Having the responsibility of shaving someone’s head was a challenge in itself, but it ended up being quite fun and the atmosphere in the office was really positive and reflective of the shared commitment we have to supporting Youthful Minds.
Charlie Lucas, Senior Administrator

Amy Hall, Children, Young Person and Families Service Manager at Mind Jersey, added: “This is an impressive and deeply personal fundraising initiative that takes real commitment and I’d like to thank Chloë for taking it on. We are truly grateful for all the support the team at Crestbridge continues to provide to Youthful Minds, both financially and by highlighting the importance of mental wellbeing amongst young people and in the workplace.”

Josh training for the 100km Ultra Challenge for Youthful Minds

An extraordinary endurance challenge to raise youth mental health awareness.

On 23 May, Josh will take on a 100km ultra marathon — a challenge that demands grit, discipline and a strong mindset. But for Josh, this isn’t just about distance; it’s about purpose.

In this Q&A, he shares what inspired him to start running, how he’s prepared for one of his biggest tests yet, and why he’s passionate about raising awareness for youth mental health in Jersey in support of our chosen charity, Youthful Minds.

Why is raising awareness for youth mental health so important to you?

Raising awareness for youth mental health is important to me because I know how easily young people can struggle in silence, and how much of a difference it makes when support and understanding is available early on.

Why do you feel Youthful Minds is such an important charity to support?

They focus on creating safe spaces, breaking down stigma, and making sure young people have the tools and confidence to speak up and seek help when they need it most.

How have you been preparing for the race?

I’ve been preparing through a mix of different training, not just running. I’ve been doing swimming sessions to help with recovery and reduce strain on my body, as well as weight training to build strength and muscle endurance.

It’s been about creating balance so I’m as physically and mentally ready as possible for the race.

You only started long distance running fairly recently. What encouraged you to take it up?

I took up long-distance running after losing my grandad — I wanted to channel that period of my life into something more positive.

We wish Josh every success as he takes on this challenge in support of our chosen charity, Youthful Minds.

Anyone wishing to donate can do so here.

Head of Risk and Operations Chloë Blampied has agreed to ‘Brave the Shave’ to help maintain momentum in raising funds for local charity Youthful Minds later this month.

Chloë will have her hair shaved off on 24 April and is encouraging colleagues and contacts to make a donation to support the cause over the coming weeks.

No stranger to fundraising, Chloë has already completed a number of challenges to support local charities over recent years, including completing the Three Peaks Challenge, abseiling down Mont Orgueil last year, taking part in White Collar Boxing competitions twice, paddleboarding around the island and White Collar DJ-ing.

But as she explains, this year Chloë wanted to take on a different kind of challenge, more aligned with the mental health aims of the charity she is supporting:

I’ve pushed my limits in plenty of physical challenges in the past, but this one is different. There’s a strong emotional connection to our hair and choosing to let go of it, particularly in such a public way, feels like an impactful away to shine a light on young people’s mental health.

I really hope people can get behind the initiative and we can raise a good sum of money to support Youthful Minds, a charity that is important to me as well as my colleagues.

Anyone wishing to donate to support Chloë’s ‘Brave the Shave’ challenge can do so here using reference ‘Brave the Shave donate’ in the comments.

Heather Tibbo, CEO, Crestbridge FOS, added: “This is such a personal challenge and I really admire Chloë for taking it on to support our chosen charity this year. Youthful Minds does an incredible amount to support young people right across our community and I’m really pleased that our team is continuing to make such a fantastic commitment to support their aims.”

Chloë’s challenge builds on colleague Josh Cullinan’s efforts to support Youthful Minds too – Josh will be raising money for Youthful Minds by competing in the London to Brighton Ultra Marathon in May, covering 100km in one single run from the capital to the south coast.

Amy Hall, Children, Young Person and Families Service Manager at Mind Jersey, added: “It’s fantastic that the team at Crestbridge Family Office Services is continuing to provide Youthful Minds with so much support this year. I’m truly grateful that Chloë is taking on such a personal initiative to support us, both financially and also by raising awareness around mental health in young people in the island.”

Administrator Josh Cullinan will be running the London to Brighton 100km Ultra Challenge marathon in May, to raise money for local charity Youthful Minds.

Josh, who only started distance running last year, has set himself the challenge of competing in the London to Brighton Ultra Marathon this May, covering 100km in one single run from the capital to the south coast.

The route begins in London and stretches all the way down to Brighton’s iconic seafront, covering a mix of city streets, country lanes, and the beautiful but demanding trails of the South Downs, finishing at Brighton Beach. It’s expected to take anywhere between 12 and 18 hours to complete, depending on conditions and pacing — a full day of endurance, grit, and focus.

The money raised through the challenge will go to the charity Youthful Minds – Crestbridge FOS’ chosen charity again this year – which works to support young people’s mental health in Jersey, providing guidance, understanding, and safe spaces for those who may be struggling.

I’m incredibly proud to be raising funds for Youthful Minds, a charity that is important to me as well as my colleagues. Mental health support for young people is something that truly matters, and by taking on this 100km ultra, I hope to not only test my own limits and mental strengths but also make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

I’ve always been drawn to pushing myself outside of my comfort zone and challenging myself both physically and mentally and this event represents both. I look forward to the challenge, and also the beautiful scenery along the way – all for a very good cause.

Heather Tibbo, CEO, Crestbridge FOS, added: “We are very proud of Josh for taking on this challenge in support of our chosen charity this year. The work Youthful Minds does in supporting young people in our community is crucial and aligns with our own company values of placing the wellbeing of people – our peers, our clients and their families – at the heart of what we do.”

Amy Hall, Children, Young Person and Families Service Manager at Mind Jersey, added: “It’s fantastic to have the continued support of Crestbridge Family Office Services again this year, and we’re truly grateful for the efforts Josh is going to, to raise money for Youthful Minds. Support like this is incredibly valuable in helping us to raise awareness around mental health in young people in the island, and we’ll absolutely be cheering him on as he undertakes this impressive challenge.”

Fabio Andrade 100km ultra-trail run raised funds for Youthful Minds

Crestbridge Family Office Services (FOS) Assistant Manager Fabio Andrade has raised more than £1,000 for Jersey-based charity Youthful Minds through completing one of the world’s most challenging long-distance trail runs in Croatia recently.

Fabio took part in the Istria 100 by UTMB challenge last month, which saw him cover a distance of 110 kilometres over difficult and technical terrain, including sections of coasteering, forests and canyons.

Competing alongside more than 500 runners from across the globe, Fabio completed the world-renowned ultra-trail race in 15 hours raising more than £1,000 for Youthful Minds, which Crestbridge FOS has chosen to support in 2025 as part of its ongoing commitment to the local community.

Youthful Minds marks its 10th anniversary this year and is led by a group of volunteers aged 11-26, all of whom have a passion for raising awareness and reducing stigma around mental health in Jersey. Supporting Youthful Minds, part of Mind Jersey, is a natural fit for Crestbridge FOS, with the firm having a clear focus on providing services for client families while also placing a significant emphasis on the wellbeing of its own people.

Commenting on his achievement, Fabio said:

“This was a physically, mentally and emotionally challenging event but knowing I was running for such a worthwhile cause in Youthful Minds kept me going even when self-doubt was creeping in. Having my five-year-old son to cheer me on also helped and I was delighted to have crossed the finish line while raising funds and awareness for a charity close to my heart.”

Heather Tibbo, CEO, Crestbridge FOS, added:

“This is an impressive challenge and a significant personal achievement for Fabio and I congratulate him on this fantastic success. He has pushed himself to the limit in order to raise funds for our nominated local charity. The work Youthful Minds does in supporting young people in our community is crucial and aligns with our own company values of placing our people, our clients and their families at the heart of what we do.”

Crestbridge Family Office Services, Assistant Manager and endurance athlete, Fabio Andrade is set to take on the one of the UTMB world series qualifier, the Istria 100, a world-renowned ultra-trail race in Croatia in April. The race attracts over 2,500 runners from across the globe.

Competing in the 100k distance, Fabio will test his limits through running rugged terrain, medieval towns, deep forests, and breathtaking coastal trails. Fabio is taking on the personal challenge to raise awareness and funds for Youthful Minds, a local mental health charity dedicated to supporting the mental wellbeing of young people in Jersey.

In this Q&A, he shares his motivation, training journey, race day strategy, and the deeper purpose behind his challenge.

Why is raising awareness for youth mental health so important to you?

Mental health support is so important, particularly for young people who may not have access to the help they need. When the charity gave a presentation to our team, and shared stories of those who have benefited from their incredible work, it really resonated with me. As Crestbridge’s chosen charity of the year, I wanted to raise awareness and support their mission. If this effort helps even one young person ,then it will be more than worth it.

How have you been preparing for the race?

I’ve been training for the last five months, dedicating 10-15 hours a week to a mix of road running, trail running, and gym work. Nutrition is a big focus too, I’ve been eating plenty of protein and complex carbs to keep my energy levels up. I did have a setback with a knee injury that slowed me down for a few weeks, but I adjusted my training and kept pushing forward.

What has been the most difficult part of training?

The last five to six weeks have been brutal. Training in the dark and in the cold – it takes a lot of mental strength and motivation. The hardest part is getting out the door, but I remind myself how far I’ve come. I tell myself, ‘If you don’t want to go back to where you came from, get up and get it done.’ That keeps me going!

Do you have a strategy for the race on the day?

I have a simple strategy – take it one checkpoint at a time. I won’t worry about who’s ahead or behind me – just focus on my own race. I’ll stay fueled, hydrated and keep my mindset strong. It’s all about pacing and keeping my body moving forward.

What will be going through your mind as you cross the finish line?

Relief, pride, and probably exhaustion! It will be a huge personal achievement but I’ll also be thinking about why I did this in the first place – raising awareness for Youthful Minds and proving to myself that I could push through.

How can people support your fundraising efforts?

Crestbridge Family Office Services have kindly donated £500 towards the challenge, and I’ve set up a JustGiving page with a goal of raising £1000.

Any donation, big or small, makes a difference.  You can donate here: Fabio’s JustGiving

What message do you have for young people struggling with mental health challenges?

There’s always light at the end of the tunnel. Whatever you’re going through, don’t give up hope and be sure to speak to someone.

Crestbridge Family Office Service (FOS) has continued to build on its recently announced support for local charity Youthful Minds with a donation, coming from the proceeds of an award recently won by the firm’s Head of Finance.

The £500 donation was prize money awarded to Karen Morris, Head of Finance at Crestbridge FOS, following her winning the Jersey Society of Chartered and Certified Accountants (JSCCA) President’s Award for Inspiring Leadership recently.

The accolade, which is in memory of late JSCCA president Chris Stuart, recognises those who have shown inspiring mentorship, prioritised and invested in team members, and helped them reach their full potential. Recipients of the JSCCA award are presented with £500 to gift to a charity of their choice – with Karen choosing Youthful Minds, which is part of Mind Jersey and works to support the mental wellbeing of young people living on the Island.

Crestbridge FOS recently pledged to support Youthful Minds as part of its ongoing commitment to the local community for 2025. The charity was deemed a natural fit due to its alignment with the business’s clear focus on supporting client families and emphasis on the wellbeing of its staff.

Over the coming year, the team at Crestbridge FOS will help the charity, which is led by volunteers and this year marks its 10th anniversary, to raise awareness around mental health in young people and undertake fundraising initiatives to help provide the charity with financial assistance.

Commenting on receiving the donation, Amy Hall, Children, Young Person and Families Service Manager at Mind Jersey, said:

“This is a very welcome donation from Karen and the team at Crestbridge Family Office Services. We’re looking forward to working with the team further as part of their support for us this year, as we continue to raise awareness around mental health in young people in the island.”
